Mobile Technologies with work at home

Mobile Technologies blurring the distinction

between home and work

In todays society, more and more employees are being introduced to mobile technologies in the workplace. this means that people are able to work at home and have access to their work at home using portable devices such as iPads, tablets and smart phones. With everything there are advantages and disadvantages that goes with this, for example: working at home creates more enjoyable and flexible working hours and it makes the work fit around the employee's family life if they have children to look after. However, the disadvantages include for the companies the are unsure whether the employee is working sufficient hours and whether they aren't working 100% to their potential because the bosses cannot keep an eye on them at work.

  1. Mobile phones are good, as you can communicate easily with friends, without any problems. However, it costs money to text people and can be quite expensive if you do it excessively, so yes, they have their ups and downs.

  2. A bad point about people having to work at home is that, although good for the business as they can get information quickly, but this is not good for the employee. This is because they have no time to themselves and have no time away from work to relax, this might lead to the employee getting stressed and having time off work.

  3. I disagree with having employees working from home as I (as the boss) am unsure about whether my employees are working to the best of their ability or whether they are taking numerous lunch breaks. This could reduce my profit as non-efficient employees mean I could be paying for workers which aren't contributing to the business.

  4. The majority of these comments suggest to me that mobile technologies at home for work aren't necessarily a very good idea as companies could potentially lose business due to underperforming employees at home that don't contribute sufficiently to the business.
